2019 Time Trial 5 – Results

First of all, thanks to Kaye for being there when the online timing threw a wobbly and left me half way through the starts with no clue about who was supposed to go next.

The first upset of the day was in the Juniors 1km where Carl pulled a personal best and pipped Lachlan at the line to take first place. There was just six seconds between the leading three paddlers and that could get even more crowded when Brandt returns to the water in the next time trial in July.

Jai and Bailey continue to improve their times and it was easy to see that they’ve been getting some coaching tips from somebody.

The next race will be held on July 21st

Junior Photographs – by John Denyer

Despite the rather rough and ready start, the racing was good. There was a solid turn of paddlers despite the number of members who are away at the national marathon champs in Perth WA right now.

A number of paddlers set PBs and there were some interesting developments in results across the field.

The initial results were completely thrown out by the need to just gather people up and send them off, so this month there are two sets of results. The first set is what happened on the day. The second has been recalculated as if everybody had been sent off at their normally alloted time. There is quite a difference.

In other news Peter hooked a fisherman and Sundo claimed a three minute assist, which has been awarded since he had GPS evidence to back his claim. Possibly the slowest 25m swim in recorded history from Peter, but we are only recording paddling results, so never mind.

Adrian scored the biggest PB improvement of the day with a massive 3m25s. Now normally I would reiterate the time tested mantra that it’s the engine, not the boat that dictates the result, but Adrian hit upon a bit of an exception to that rule. He’s a very consistent performer in his trusty Mirage 580, but all that went out the window when he lined up on the start line in Gareth’s Rocket.

The question now, is has Adrian been bitten by the speed bug, necessitating the purchase of something long and lightweight, or will he be able to go back the Mirage? Time will tell.
