Windsor Marathon Report

by John Denyer

We had 16 paddlers travel just down the road to Windsor on the 3rd August for Round 9 of the Marathon Series. It was a very cool morning followed by a glorious day for paddling, around 21degrees and no wind. Windsor club turned on a great event and there were plenty of competitors there to enjoy it.

This round was portage round and the father and son teams Stokes and Sheather  took up the challenge and did the club proud earning extra points for the club.

The club finished the day with a notable first in Div 6 for Adrian and second for Raff in Div 10 plus he also earns a promotion to Div 9 thanks to his great sub one hour time. Lachie continues his consistent racing also in Div 10 and is currently third overall in the series being the only competitor in the division to complete all 9 races this year. Ian and Sue did a fantastic sub 2 hour PB to come second in Div 5. There were quite few other PB’s on the day, possibly thanks to the good conditions.

Well done to Bert who completed his fourth race of the series and to Kaye for cheering us all on.

One guess which was the noisiest boat on the water. No, Andrew was in Europe, so no singing this race, however, Diane and Lis kept up the chatter in Div 12 and had a good time first up in the SLR2.

The next and final race is at Teralba in just over a week. There are quite a few SSCC paddlers well placed in the overall series so it will be interesting to see who comes away with the trophies.
